Can you tell me how to get a duplicate car title in Illinois?

I was cleaning out my house and accidentally shredded my car title with some junk papers. How do I get a duplicate car title in Illinois?

That’s no good! Luckily,
Illinois
has made it pretty easy to get a duplicate
car title
.
To start, you will need to fill out the Application for Vehicle Transactions (VSD 190) form, which is on the Illinois Secretary of State website. Select the box stating you are applying for a duplicate title and fill in each corresponding section thereafter. You will also need to fill in the vehicle’s VIN and current odometer reading.
Once you finish the form, submit it, along with the $50 duplicate title fee, to the Secretary of State’s office.
Keep in mind: You will need your vehicle's title to
register the car
in Illinois.
While you’re waiting for your new title to come in the mail, take some time to look into your car’s insurance coverage. Having good coverage is just as important has having a title! If you find that you’re paying too much or are unhappy with your coverage, download the
