Can you tell me how to check if my car is insured or not?

I want to know if there's an active policy on a car that was given to my son. How can I tell if it’s insured?

You can find out if the car is actively insured by consulting the car’s insurance documentation or using a database.
Having an active auto policy is required by law before you can drive the vehicle. If your son will be regularly driving this car, his name needs to be on the insurance plan.
Here are some great options for figuring out if your son’s new vehicle is already covered by your
car insurance
policy:
  • Check the insurance card or other insurance documentation. Even if the card is old, you can use the
    policy number
to find out if the account is up to date with the insurance provider.
  • Visit your local DMV or contact the Secretary of State. They can often help you find an existing policy.
  • Get a quote from another insurance company. The agent will be able to see any active policies on the vehicle when setting up your quote.
