Can you take defensive driving for running a red light?

I received a ticket for running a red light about a week ago. I paid the fine because I was in the wrong, but my friend told me I could get the ticket dropped or points removed if I take a defensive driving class. Can I take a defensive driving course if I ran a red light?

In many states, you can take a defensive driving course for running a red light, but only in certain circumstances. If you were convicted of a
DUI
or reckless driving, you may not be eligible.
But if you simply ran a red light due to distractions or something else, you can probably get a few point deductions on your record. Distracted driving courses usually take about eight hours, so plan ahead to get the most out of your class.
While you can take a defensive driving course to limit your points, don’t forget about car insurance. The
