Can you take a driving test with your own car?

I’m prepping for my upcoming driving test. So far, I feel pretty comfortable, but I’m worried about taking the test with the DMV’s car. Can I take the driving test with my own car?

The oddity about taking a driving test is that you need to have your own car and your own
car insurance
. The DMV doesn’t provide anything. In most cases, you use a parent’s car or a friend’s car. So, yes, you can take a driving test with your own car or even someone else’s.
When you arrive for the test, you’ll also need:
  • Proof of insurance
  • Proof of residency
  • Birth certificate
  • Social Security card
Exact requirements will vary depending on your state, so be sure to check your state driver’s manual or your state DMV website for exact instructions.
After you pass your driving test, you have another, smaller test ahead: finding a great rate on car insurance. Fortunately,
Jerry
makes this process surprisingly easy.
Jerry is a licensed insurance broker that will search for quotes from over 50 top-rated insurers in minutes. After you find a great rate, Jerry can help you buy new insurance and cancel your old policy. Users save an average of $887 per year.
