Can you sleep in an RV bed while driving?

I’m taking my family on an RV road trip this summer. We don’t have enough seat belts for everyone, but it’s most likely that at least one person will be sleeping in the bed as we drive. Can you sleep in an RV bed while driving?

That’s a great question and we’re a little tiny bit jealous about your upcoming RV road trip. The answer is no, you cannot sleep in an RV bed while driving. The reasons are:
  • The number of passengers inside an RV must not exceed the number of seat belts.
  • Since beds do not have seat belts, no one should be in them while the RV is in operation.
Even if this was allowed, you do not want anyone, especially children, sleeping in the bed while you’re driving. They would not be wearing seat belts in the event of an accident.
