Can you return a car in Maryland?

I purchased a new SUV two weeks ago, but I just got a new job in Baltimore that will require me to commute quite a bit. I’m thinking of switching it out to get a more fuel-efficient car instead. Are you allowed to return a car in Maryland?

Congrats on the new job! You may be able to return a car in
Maryland
under certain circumstances.
There are two situations where you can return a vehicle you just bought from a dealer: 1. You and the dealer or seller mutually agree to a buy-back deal within 60 days of the initial purchase. 2. You purchased a new car with serious mechanical problems, also known as a lemon. In this case, the return is protected under
Maryland’s lemon law
.
The lemon law does not apply to used cars, however. That’s why it’s essential to inspect any used car you’re considering purchasing.
Here’s how:
  • Look over the
    CARFAX report
  • Thoroughly examine the vehicle, including the exterior, interior, and under the hood
  • Take it for a test drive
  • Ask to view the maintenance records
  • Inspect the
    Kelley Blue Book value
    of the car
Taking all of these precautions can help you avoid
buyer’s remorse
.
