Can you rent a car from Dollar to travel to Mexico?

My aunt is renting a car from Dollar. We want to take a road trip, can we drive it to Mexico?

“When your aunt picks up the rental vehicle, she should ask the rental agent whether travel to Mexico is allowed. Some locations allow travel to Mexico, but only if you make your intentions known. Bear in mind that Dollar also has the following requirements and restrictions:
  • The Emergency Sickness Plan coverage from Dollar is always invalid in Mexico.
  • Renters must purchase Mexican rental car insurance directly from Dollar
  • You cannot go more than 250 miles past the U.S.-Mexico border
Failing to inform Dollar about your Mexico travel plans or taking the car across the border without proper approval will invalidate any car insurance you have through Dollar.
If Dollar does not allow travel to Mexico, you can look into other rental car companies or consider choosing a different destination for your trip.
Want to avoid the hassle and take your own car to Mexico? Research U.S.-based car insurance companies that partner with Mexican car insurers. Then, hop on Jerry to compare rates from your shortlist of providers.”
