Can you make a right turn on a red in Georgia?

I’m from California, where turning right at red lights is legal. But my friend visited Georgia once, and he’s saying it’s illegal to turn right at a red light there! Is that true?

Red light tickets are generally some of the most expensive, so it’s great you’re being cautious!
You can turn right at a red light in Georgia as long as you make a complete stop beforehand and ensure there are no oncoming cars or pedestrians before entering the intersection or crosswalk. But some intersections might have a posted sign disallowing right turns on red lights, so always check signage before turning right on a red in Georgia.
That means that just like rolling through a stop sign, rolling through a red light in Georgia is illegal and could result in a traffic violation and ticket.
Red light tickets are no joke—in Georgia, a red light ticket has a maximum fine of $1,000 and can add up to 3 points to your license. Remember that points on your license directly impact your car insurance rates, so expect your car insurance to go up if you receive a red light ticket in Georgia.
