Can you live in your van permanently?

I was inspired to create my own campervan after visiting some friends in New Zealand. Living in a campervan there is common among both travelers/tourists and locals. I haven't seen many people that decided to live in a van in the U.S. Can I permanently live in a van legally in the U.S.?

“The legality of living in your van varies from state to state. However, there’s nothing to stop you from actually living in your van permanently.
The biggest issue when choosing to live in your van is
car insurance
. When you live in your van, you aren’t eligible for a standard
car insurance or homeowners policy
.
In most cases, your campervan should qualify for a Class B RV policy. This will cover your van as well as the property inside of it. However, depending on the model of your van and how you converted it, you may not qualify for a policy.
Another thing to consider will be whether you’ll have a permanent place to park your van or if you’ll be traveling consistently. This can be tricky, and you may need to discuss it with your local government or other officials to find the right answer. You might also want to see if there are any vanlife groups in your area.
You’ll want to reach out to your current insurance company or get quotes from several companies to determine what coverage would be available to you.
