Can you have more than one renters insurance policy?

I’m moving into a new apartment in a few months in a pretty high-risk area. I’ll probably buy renters insurance to protect my belongings, but I’m wondering if I should double up on policies just in case. Can I purchase more than one renters insurance policy?

You technically can have more than one
renters insurance
policy at a time, but it’s probably unnecessary because purchasing two insurance policies won’t double your coverage.
A single renters insurance policy covers you and your items both in and outside your apartment, and if you try to file multiple claims for one incident, that would be considered insurance fraud.
