Can you get boat insurance without a driver's license?

Will providers still sell me a policy? I want to purchase boat insurance for our family sailboat that we keep in a marina, but I don't have a driver's license.

Having boat insurance for your sailboat is a good idea, especially when it’s in a public marina. Unlike
auto insurance
, boat insurance is usually optional.
Since you don’t need a driver’s license to operate a boat in most jurisdictions, you may not need a driver’s license to buy boat insurance. That said, it often depends on the insurance company.
Some companies may only require that you own the boat, it is registered in your name, and you meet your state’s boating requirements.
If you currently have
home
or
renters insurance
with a company, ask them if they offer boat insurance as well. Many companies offer discounts for
bundling policies
and may not require you have a driver’s license.
While
Jerry
doesn’t currently work with any partners that offer boat insurance without a driver’s license, we can help you find home, renters, or even
car insurance
if you ever get a driver’s license!
