Can you get aftermarket parts during an insurance claim?

Can I request aftermarket modifications during an insurance claim? My friend said that he was able to replace his regular bumper with a sport one after an accident.

“You may be able to request aftermarket parts during an insurance claim, but there’s no guarantee you’ll get them.
In the event of an accident, your
car insurance company
will pay out claims based on the repair costs. If your vehicle is totaled, you’ll receive the
actual cash value (ACV)
of it.
To request aftermarket or specialized parts, your car insurance company will have to approve the estimate provided by the auto repair shop. Many car insurance companies prefer aftermarket parts during a repair because they’re cheaper than manufacturer’s parts. However, they may not approve aftermarket parts designed to enhance the performance of the vehicle.
If your insurance only covers the replacement or repair of your current equipment, you’ll need to pay anything extra out of pocket.
Should you be curious about what your insurance will cover, speak with an agent. They can provide you with more information on what your policy covers.
