Can you get a cracked windshield ticket?

I just noticed a crack in my windshield, but I don’t have the money to repair it right away. Can I get a ticket for driving with a cracked windshield?

Sorry to hear about your windshield! Driver beware—you can get a cracked windshield ticket.
It depends on your state, but most consider a cracked windshield to be a non-moving violation. These offenses are generally less serious than moving violations but can still be costly and harm your driving record.
In some states, multiple offenses of any kind can result in your license being suspended. Some instances allow for the driver to repair or replace the windshield and show proof to the court to have the offense removed.
The fine for a cracked windshield also varies per state. In California, for instance, driving with a cracked windshield comes with a fine between $50 and $120 in addition to court costs for the first offense.
The severity of the crack could also play a part in how big of a fine you receive. The more severe the crack, the less visibility a driver will have and the more dangerous it is to drive.
Ticket or not, you never want to drive with a damaged windshield. Even the smallest crack can quickly worsen, and you could find yourself in a serious and risky situation.
A car with an intact windshield is key to safe driving—as is having the right

coverage. But that shouldn’t mean overpaying.
