My family’s taking the RV out camping this upcoming week and we wanted to bring our pickup along for the ride. Can you flat tow a Ford F-150 4x4?

Sounds like a great trip! Yes, you can flat tow a Ford F-150 4x4. In fact, you can only tow your Ford F-150 pickup if it has four-wheel drive (is a 4x4).
Here’s how to do it:
- Press the START/STOP button or turn the ignition key on without engaging the brake pedal
- Engage the brake pedal and rotate the four-wheel drive mode switch to 2H
- Shift into Neutral
- Rotate the four-wheel drive mode switch up and down from 2H to 4L five times within seven seconds
- The instrument display panel will indicate that neutral tow has been enabled
- Press the START/STOP button once without engaging the brake or turn the ignition key as far as it goes toward off and leave it in the vehicle
If you have a manual ignition key, use a spare key to lock your F-150 after. You do not need to leave your keys in the truck if your Ford has intelligent access. To exit flat tow mode, press the START/STOP button or turn the ignition key to on without engaging the brakes. Then shift the gear out of Neutral.
