Can you fit a Smartcar in a truck bed?

My wife wants to buy a Smartcar Fortwo because she’s always wanted one. I found one on the cheap, but it’s in New York and we live in Ohio. I don’t want to pay for shipping because it costs far too much. Can I pick up the Smartcar in my full-size truck?

While hauling a
Smartcar Fortwo
in a full-size pickup is an intelligent way to cut costs, it’s just not possible. A Smartcar will not fit in a truck bed because it’s slightly too long.
While most truck beds have a maximum length of about eight feet, a Smartcar is nearly nine feet long. Without the ability to close the tailgate and with a bit of the car hanging out the back, hauling the Smartcar is unsafe.
Because you can’t safely fit a Smartcar in a truck bed, you’re going to need to ship it or drive out and pick it up. Picking it up on your own and driving it back to Ohio is the cheaper option. But if you don’t have the time, get several bids from shipping companies to cut costs.
