Can you drive with a loose exhaust?

I drove over a curb in a parking lot this morning and the exhaust pipes are hanging loose under the car. Can I drive home with a loose exhaust?

Hitting a curb has happened to every driver at some point. Physically, yes, your car will still run and you can drive it with a loose or dangling exhaust pipe. But is it a good idea? No.
If your exhaust is just loose and you live very close, you can drive the car home, but do not drive it again until it’s repaired. The exhaust pipe is responsible to move toxic gasses away from the engine. If it is damaged, the toxins can enter your car while driving.
If the pipe is dragging on the ground, you will need to either call a tow truck or disconnect it before you drive. A dragging pipe can and will make sparkes and is a fire hazard. It can also disconnect while you are driving and cause a major accident.
Check your current insurance policy, if you have
towing and labor coverage
, your insurance provider will either pay to have a tow truck come and get you or they will provide reimbursement.
While checking out your policy, take a peek at your premium. Then, if you don’t like what you see, download the
