Can you drive a salvage title car in Texas?

My car was damaged in a fire a few months ago, and it got a salvage title. It’s in really good shape now and I’m ready to drive it again. Can you drive a salvage title car in Texas?

Sorry to hear about your car, you cannot drive a salvage title car in Texas. You must get it retitled as a rebuilt vehicle.
Salvage cars are not allowed on public roads, and they’re not eligible for car insurance.
If your car has been repaired—and it passes inspection—then you can apply for a rebuilt title. Check with your local Texas DMV branch to find out which forms you’ll need. Once you’ve got the new title, you’re good to go!
Remember to make a plan for

ahead of time. Salvaged cars aren’t easy to ensure even once rebuilt, so make sure you’ve got your shop around for your coverage because it’s illegal to drive without it in Texas.
