Can you drive a salvage title car in California?

I have a salvage title car that’s been repaired. Do I need to do anything official to change its status? Can you drive a salvage title car in California?

A salvage title car in
California
may not be driven on the road. Instead, you must apply for a rebuilt title to be eligible for insurance—and road legal.
An examiner will review the quality of the rebuild to ensure the vehicle is safe. Only then can you apply for a new rebuilt title.
Check with the
California DMV
to confirm which forms you’ll need to fill out.
Keep in mind:
Car insurance
for your rebuilt vehicle can be tricky but you need it to drive legally in California, so make sure you shop around and find coverage.
