Can you change gears in an automatic while driving?

I noticed that I have an option on my automatic gear shift to switch to a manual mode. I’m going through a mountainous area next week and it’s probably in my best interest to use it, but I’ve never done so before. Can I change gears in an automatic while driving?

As you mentioned, dozens of automatic models have manual shift modes. So if you’re going to a mountainous area, you can change gears in an automatic while driving. When you use the manual shift mode on an automatic, you get more torque, which can help your car climb hills and steep grades more effectively.
But before you change gears in an automatic while driving, practice on a flat road first. Changing gears at the wrong time may result in damage to your transmission or gearbox, so tread lightly. And before your trip, always take your car to the shop for
