Can you buy a car for 10% below MSRP?

Can you really buy a car for 10% off MSRP? My dad bragged about how he's gotten 10% off the MSRP of a new car in the past, but I don't believe him. Is this realistic, or is my dad exaggerating?

“Your Dad is definitely not exaggerating!
You might get 10% off MSRP if:
  • you’re a good negotiator
  • you pay for the car in cash or provide a large
    down payment
To pull this off, you’re going to have to do your
research online
, come in calm and collected, and never tip off the salesman about how much you’re willing to spend.
You may also want to offer a low-ball figure right away just to see how they react.
Remember, you have the upper hand in these situations, so don’t be afraid to push a bit.”
