Can the HOA tell you what to do?
I am thinking of moving into this new home in a cute little subdivision, but an HOA runs it. I have heard horror stories about having to follow crazy rules, if I move there, can the HOA tell me what to do?

Living in an HOA can be a blessing or a curse. Yes, the HOA can tell you what to do, and there will be rules that all residents must follow. If residents don’t follow the rules, they can incur some pretty hefty fines.
One of the main goals of having an HOA is to ensure the properties are held to a high standard so the market value of the community stays desirable. Every HOA is different. Some just require lawns to be well-manicured, while others are stringent and only allow certain types of plants and all the homes have to be the same color.
