Can roommates split renters insurance?

I'm about to move into an apartment that will be shared with a roommate. Can we split renters insurance?

Roommates can split renters insurance as long as both people are listed on the policy as a named insured. If there are residents living in the home but not listed on the policy, they may not be covered under the renters insurance if there is ever a loss or a claim made.
