Can I use my phone GPS while driving?

I like to use my phone’s GPS while I’m driving so I always know where I’m going. That said, I’m not sure if it’s entirely legal. Am I allowed to use my phone GPS while driving?

You can use your phone GPS while driving depending on the state and local laws. Check your state’s cell phone laws on the National Conference of State Legislature website at ncsl.org.
No state bans all phone use for all drivers. However:
  • 24 states ban drivers from using
    handheld phones
    (but hands-free functions are permitted)
  • 48 states ban texting and driving
  • 36 states ban all cell phone use for new drivers and teen drivers
  • Other states have laws surrounding phone use by school bus drivers and phone use in certain zones (like school zones)
The best advice is to know the law where you’re driving, use hands-free capabilities whenever possible, and utilize your car’s touchscreen navigation system if possible to avoid getting a ticket.
Since you’re wondering about your phone GPS and whether using it is legal, you’re obviously a cautious driver. Check out potential safe driver car insurance discounts and compare rates on the
