Can I use my maiden name on my driving license?

I’m getting married in about six weeks. As a perennial planner, I’m trying to streamline the process of changing my name on legal documents. The only one I’m not sure about is my driver’s license. Can I use my maiden name on my driving license after I get hitched?

Congrats on the nuptials and the next chapter in your life! If you’re a huge planner, changing your name on documents is a challenging ordeal. But you can use your maiden name on your driving license if you please.
This may, however, lead to a few challenges. Your driving license name often has to match other documentation to purchase
car insurance
. Car insurance companies want the name of the insured driver to match the driver’s license, so this will almost certainly create problems.
So while you can use your maiden name on a driving license, it’s not the best option if you plan to change your name on other documents. In this sense, you should either leave your maiden name on everything or change your name on everything. This will significantly limit any hassles on your car insurance and other areas of your life.
