Can I use my gap insurance on a rental car?

My vehicle was totaled and I need to rent a car to get to work. I have gap insurance on my car. Will it also cover a rental car until I can get a new car?

Gap insurance
only provides coverage on your personal vehicle by paying the difference between what you owe on your loan and the actual cash value of your vehicle. It won’t cover any costs associated with a rental car.
Here are some options for rental car coverage:
Option 1: Rental reimbursement coverage
Option 2: The other driver’s insurance
  • If you were not at fault in the accident, the other driver’s insurance may pay for a rental car for you. Your insurance company can try to negotiate with the other party’s insurance to get you a rental car.
