Can I sue a mechanic for taking too long?

My car has been at the mechanic's for ages! They give me vague, unhelpful answers whenever I call for an update. I'm honestly fed up. Can I sue a mechanic for taking too long?

You can sue a mechanic for taking too long with your car in small claims court, especially if you made a downpayment.
If you gave a mechanic a downpayment and they
have not fixed your car
, you may be able to win in small claims court. Your case will be stronger if their negligence in fixing the vehicle has exacerbated the original issue or caused you to lose additional money somehow.
However, we don’t recommend rushing straight to the courts. This can be a lengthy, troublesome process. First, follow-up with the mechanic again. If that doesn’t work, file a complaint with the DMV or BBB—some states have regulatory boards for mechanics.
