Can I rent a car to travel out of state?

I’m moving out of state next month, and I don’t have a car. I’m planning on getting all my furniture once I’ve moved, and everything I own can fit into a sedan or hatchback, so there’s no reason to rent a U-Haul. Can I rent a car to move out of state?

If you have too little for a
U-Haul
and too much for an airplane, a rental car is a great alternative to help you move. Before you decide to rent a car to help you move out of state, you should be aware of any additional costs or restrictions.
Depending on the rental company, the following out-of-state travel fees and restrictions may apply:
  • Separate one-way rental
  • Increase out of state driving fees
  • Restrict travel to bordering states
  • Daily mileage caps
If you decide to use a rental car to move out of state, share your plans with your rental agent and check the contract before you get the rental to avoid violation penalties. Avoid unnecessary
rental car insurance
and find out if your car insurance policy covers rental vehicles with
