Can I renew a driver's license online in Tennessee?

I just received the courtesy notice for my driver’s license renewal in the mail, but I really don’t want to sit in a DMV this month. I’m from the Nashville area—can I renew my license online in Tennessee instead?

Totally understandable, my friend—hanging out in a
Nashville
DMV can feel like a special form of torture at times.
Fortunately, you do have the option to renew your
Tennessee
driver’s license online. However, you must meet the following conditions:
  • Your license photo is still valid (usually, it must be updated every eight years)
  • You have no changes to your personal information
  • This is NOT your first license renewal
  • You have a standard license without restrictions or endorsements
You’ll want to take a good look at that courtesy notice you received as well—while you don’t need this to renew your license, it will let you know whether or not you’re eligible to renew online.
If you meet the online renewal eligibility requirements, you may use Tennessee Driver Services’
online portal
to renew. You will need to pay a $28 fee via credit or debit along with any late renewal fees and online processing fees.
Your renewed license should arrive in the mail—if needed, you can print the license renewal email confirmation to use as a 20-day license extension alongside your expired license.
