Can I plug my electric car into a regular outlet?

I’m looking into buying an electric car, and I heard that you can charge your car at home. How does that work? Do I just plug it into the wall like a toaster?

You’re not alone—a lot of people are looking into switching to an electric vehicle right now. Technically, you can
charge an electric car
straight into a regular outlet, but there are better options. Regular home outlets offer up to 120 volts of electricity. Electric cars come with Level 1 chargers that you can connect to these regular outlets, but these take a long time to get your EV juiced up and ready for the road. Most current models can also be charged with Level 2 chargers. These require the type of 240-volt outlets used by large appliances like stoves and dryers. These speed up the charging process considerably, ensuring that your car is ready to go by the morning. Level 3 chargers also require 240-volt outlets. They can charge some EVs completely in less than an hour. But not every model is compatible with Level 3 chargers, so make sure to check before plugging your car into one of them.
