Can I make a claim on my new Cadillac XT6 if it isn't added to my current policy?

The dealership said they would provide insurance for the first 10 days. A rock ended up cracking my windshield. I'm already insured with AAA and was going to wait to add my vehicle to my policy until the dealership's insurance ran out. Can I just add the car to my policy and submit a claim?

“You’ll first want to contact the dealership to determine what types of coverage they are providing. If they only provide
liability insurance
, their coverage wouldn’t apply in this situation.
You should also reach out to
AAA
. Most companies extend current coverage to new vehicles for a specific amount of time. Since you just purchased the vehicle, it should qualify.
However, in order to submit a claim, you will need to have
comprehensive coverage
on the vehicle. If you don’t, they most likely won’t cover the damage.
Adding coverage after damage has occurred and submitting a claim is considered fraud. You can face serious fines or jail time if the insurance company discovers that the damage happened prior to you buying the necessary coverage. “
