Can I get car insurance with an international driving permit?
I've been living in Paris for the last few years and I have an international driving permit. My partner and I are moving to the States to be closer to their family, and I'm thinking of getting a car. However, I don't know if I would be able to get insurance with my driving permit—so are there any companies that will issue a policy for someone with an international driving permit?

“Congratulations on the move! You should be able to get
car insurance
with an international driving permit as several insurance companies will issue policies. However, your options may be limited depending on where you live. Some states’ DMVs may not recognize an international driving permit or international license, meaning insurance companies won’t offer policies for them. Having an international permit can affect your ability to register a vehicle as well.
Before looking for insurance, find out what your state’s requirements are. If they do accept international licenses, you shouldn’t have any issues getting car insurance.
If they don’t, you may have more difficulty, but it’s not impossible.
To find out what companies will offer a policy and what the cost will be, you should request
car insurance quotes online

as they do offer policies for international licenses. Since you won’t have a driving record in the US, expect your rate to be higher. Insurance rates are risk-based, so you’ll be considered a higher risk to companies than someone with a
