Can I get car insurance if I don't have a license?
I don't have a driver's license yet, but I do know how to drive. Is there a way to get an insurance policy if I don't have a driver's license? I don't plan on driving often enough to get a license, but I want to be covered if I borrow a friend's car.

. The exception to this rule is if you have a learner’s permit. If you have a permit but have not upgraded to a license, you can still drive as long as you obey your state’s permit rules.
Keep in mind that having a driver’s license does not mean you need to have an insurance policy. Most insurance policies allow for permissive use, so you will be covered to occasionally drive a friend’s or family member’s car from time to time. Depending on where you live, the cost of a driver’s license can range from $10 to $89. It’s wiser financially to have a license, as many states will fine you for driving without one.
