Can I get a car title loan without the title? My dog was sick and the vet bill is more than I can afford. I’m considering a title loan for extra cash, but I am still paying the loan on my car, so I don’t have the title.

I’m so sorry to hear about your dog! I hope they’re doing better. Since a title loan works by using your car’s title as collateral to secure the loan, you can’t get a car title loan without the title. That said, you still have options, including:
- Applying for an auto equity loan: An auto equity loan uses your car’sactual cash valueto determine the loan amount. However, you must have positive equity in the vehicle. To find out how much positive equity you have, subtract your car’s actual cash value from your loan balance. Like a title loan, expect high-interest rates, and if you cannot pay back the loan, you risk losing your car.
- A non-profit like The Pet Fund: The Pet Fund is a 501(c)3 non-profit whose goal is to help pet owners get the funds they need for non-urgent veterinarian services. For example, they can help cover things like cancer treatment.
- Talking with your veterinarian about a payment plan.
