Can I get a car loan if I am under 18?
I am 17 and really want a car. Literally all of my friends have one. I have a job, but not enough money to buy anything full-price. Can I get a loan even though I am under 18?

If you’re under 18, you won’t be able to get an auto loan.
Consider other ways to get the vehicle you need:
- You could raise money to buy the car outright
- You could ask a parent or guardian for financial help.
- You could ask a parent or guardian to cosign a loan with you.
Once you turn 18, you will be able to get a loan, but it may be difficult. Lenders like to see steady employment and credit history, neither of which you’re likely to have at 18 years old.
Once you manage to precure your much-needed wheels, remember that you will also need to find the right car insurance. Use insurance broker Jerry to compare quotes and receive personalized recommendations. Sign up is free and takes less than a minute.
