Can I drive a rental car from El Paso, Texas, to Mexico?

I live in El Paso and I'd like to travel across the border. I don't want to take my own car. Can I rent a car to travel to Mexico?

“Since you live close to the border, you may be able to rent a vehicle to travel to Mexico.
To determine whether a location near you would allow travel to Mexico, call rental car companies in your area. You’ll need to disclose that you plan on driving to Mexico and how long your trip will be.
If you find a company that allows travel to Mexico, you’ll need to carry proper
car insurance
. Mexico does not recognize American liability coverage, so you’ll need a separate policy for travel.
Since you already own a vehicle, you can check with your current carrier to find out if they offer coverage. If not, the rental car company or a travel insurance agency may offer
rental car insurance
that includes coverage to Mexico.
If you plan on taking frequent trips to Mexico, you may want to see if any car insurance companies will provide you with a long-term policy. Do some research, download the
Jerry
app, and compare rates to get the right coverage and save the most money.”
