Can I do anything to speed up an uninsured motorist claim in Washington?

"I was in an accident with an unlicensed, uninsured driver. I wasn't at fault and the police officer at the scene provided me with the other driver's information.

The insurance claim process has been incredibly slow. I think it's because they can't tell if the driver was uninsured or not at the time of the accident. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process? "

“When filing an
uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage
claim, the process should be no different than a normal claim. If the process is moving slowly, there could be a lack of information that is causing a delay.
It is possible that the other driver did have insurance and was not truthful about it. This would require your insurance to speak with other driver’s insurance company and claims department. They’d then have to go over all of the accident details with them and provide proof.
If the other driver is actually uninsured, the best thing to do is reach out to your adjuster or insurance company. They should be able to provide you with an update as to why the process is taking longer than normal.
