Can I disband an HOA?
I have lived in a subdivision with an HOA for about 10 years. We all have to pay $120 per month, but the only thing they do is cut the grass. I can cut my grass for cheaper than that. How can I disband an HOA?

Yes, it is possible to disband an HOA (homeowners association), but it will depend on how the other residents in your community feel.
Does your association have any common areas that also need upkeep, like a clubhouse, pool, or park area? If so, that is where the rest of your association fee is going. If not, you may have a good chance of getting people on your side. Every HOA is different, but in general, you would need 80% of the community to vote in favor of disbanding the HOA for it to work.
Here is what to look into before you put your request to a vote:
- Do you have community support?: Ask around to see if other people feel the same as you
- Read the CC & R: The Declaration of Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions for your association will show what is needed for the HOA to disband
- Find out what type of corporation your HOA is: Nonprofit organizations have different rules of dissolution so finding out how your HOA is filed is crucial
