Can I charge an electric car with a generator?

I’m wondering what happens if I lose power and need to charge my electric car. Will a generator work?

Great question! You can use a generator to charge an electric vehicle, for the most part. But remember—always consult your electric car’s owner’s manual for specific charging instructions.
Some sources claim, charging an electric car will
require a generator
that can produce at least 10kW of backup power. A portable generator most likely will not work—you would need a standby generator that is permanently installed in your home. They are meant to back up an entire home, and can produce anywhere from 10,000 kW to more than 50,000 kW of power.
No matter how you charge your electric car, you’ll want to be sure you are not overpaying for car insurance for it.
