Can I change the status of my vehicle if it's no longer used for commercial purposes?

I have a large truck that's no longer being used for commercial purposes. We use it when we travel, as well as for camping. I'm having difficulty finding insurance and roadside assistance based on its size. Is there anything I can do?

“Finding
car insurance
for a commercial vehicle can be difficult, even if it’s for personal use only.
While it may not work, you could try changing the type of vehicle with the Department of Transportation or your state’s DMV. In some cases, they will change a vehicle’s status from commercial to personal.
If they do, you may be able to find insurance more easily. However, insuring certain types of vehicles is based on the discretion of insurance companies. Even if you can change the status of the vehicle with the DMV, an insurance company often goes by the VIN (vehicle identification number) of the truck. If the VIN is showing a commercial-sized vehicle or a type of vehicle that is typically used for commercial purposes, they may refuse to write a personal policy.
With a commercial policy, you should have the option to add roadside assistance or
towing and labor
coverage.
