Can I cancel home insurance at any time?

I don’t want to talk poorly of my current insurance company, but they’ve let me down in pricing, coverage, and customer service. I don’t think they can meet my needs, so I want to switch companies. The problem is, my policy isn’t up for renewal yet, but I don’t want to stay with them until my term is up. Can I cancel my home insurance at any time?

I’m sorry you’re working with a company that is dissatisfying; that’s an inconvenience and frustration to something that should be offering you peace of mind. The short answer is, yes, you can cancel your
home insurance
policy at any time.
The longer answer is that you may incur cancellation fees. If you paid for six months or a year in advance, you may be paid back a prorated amount for the unused coverage. Some companies, on the other hand, may charge you a cancellation fee regardless.
If your lender requires you to have home insurance, then you should sign for a new policy before you cancel your old one, or you may incur additional fees for a lapse in coverage.
Always call and check with your current company before canceling so you can make the most informed decision.
If you do end up canceling and need some help shopping around for the lowest rates, try using the

bundle your home and auto policies
for additional savings.
