Can I be sacked for losing my driving license?

My driver’s license got suspended and I’m worried there could be repercussions for my employment. Can my employer fire me if I receive a driver’s license suspension?

I'm sorry to hear your license was suspended. There are many
reasons your driver’s license could be suspended
, but not all of them will impact your employment.
The first and most obvious case is one where losing your driver’s license affects your ability to do your job. If you’re a bus driver, delivery driver, or chauffeur, you can’t drive without a valid license and your employer could let you go. You may be able to keep your employment by asking to be transferred to a desk job while you work on reinstating your license.
Indirectly, a DUI conviction or reckless driving charge (and the accompanying license suspension) may also cause your employer to question your judgment. Your reputation could suffer if your job depends on trust and working with the vulnerable, like a medical, educational, or caretaking career.
The best thing you can do after a mistake is to turn it into a learning opportunity. File for
SR-22 insurance
, pay your traffic tickets, take a
defensive driving course
, or whatever else you need to do to make it right. Although some people may only think negatively of your driver’s license suspension, others will notice and appreciate your improvement.
