Can I add an additional insured to my car insurance?

I recently got car insurance on my new car. My dealership requested proof of insurance and said I need to add them as an additional insured since my car is leased. Am I still able to do that?

“It’s common to forget to add your lessor to your
car insurance
, so don’t worry! You can still add them at any time.
Call your insurance company to do so. They will ask for the name of the company as well as their address. It’s likely your insurance will require you to carry full coverage since you’re adding a lessor to the policy.
This means you may have to add both
comprehensive insurance
and
collision insurance
in addition to your liability coverage. Sometimes carriers also charge a small fee for adding additional insureds or lienholders.
Once you have added your dealership as an additional insured, you can request a new
insurance declaration page
from your carrier to send to them. Your insurance may also send proof of the addition directly to them.
For as long as you lease the vehicle, shop around when you’re close to your renewal period. This can help you save hundreds of dollars on your insurance costs, especially when you use the
Jerry
app to compare rates.”
