Can electric cars use HOV lanes in Texas?

I heard that some places allow EV drivers to use HOV lane access even when driving alone. Can I use HOV lanes with my electric vehicle in Texas?

You are correct about some places allowing single-driver HOV lane access, but Texas is not yet on that list.
The Texas Department of Transportation website states the traditional rules—i.e., two or more passengers—and includes a list of conventional vehicles allowed to use the HOV lane. But the site makes no mention of any exceptions for EVs.
This is a major
incentive for driving electric cars
in some states and other countries as well. However, in
Texas
, the law does not yet extend the privilege to zero-emissions vehicles.
A few years ago, there was an online petition for Texas to change its laws, but it has not yet had much of an effect on legislation. The laws may change if Texas wants to push for electric vehicles, but so far, they haven’t.
It’s important to note the laws in each state or region when driving on the roads, as what is okay in one area may not be in another. To avoid any issues, you should familiarize yourself with
Texas’ traffic laws
