Can driving under a certain amount of miles every day save you money?
Someone told me that if I drive under 50 miles a day, I can save money. I'm always looking to save money on my insurance; is this true?
“It is true! Driving under a particular mileage every day or year can get you a discount.
In most cases, to get a low mileage discount with your car insurance, you’ll need to drive under 30 miles a day. On average, most people drive between 8,000 to 12,000 miles a year.
Driving between 0 to 7,500 miles a year is typically where a low mileage discount would apply. However, every company is different. There may be other specifications for a low mileage discount.
To find out what your insurance company offers, you should speak with an agent. If you don’t qualify for a low mileage discount, you may be able to enroll in a driving behavior program. By having an app or device track your driving, you can save up to 20% on your policy.
Again, reach out to your insurance company to see if you’re eligible for low mileage or good driving discounts. They’ll be able to provide you with any information regarding their programs.
If they don’t offer additional discounts, you could also request car insurance quotes with other companies to see what you may qualify for elsewhere.
