Thank you for your question! The act of driving does not cause seizures. However, certain conditions can trigger a seizure while you are driving if you have epilepsy.
Below are some examples of common triggers that have been reported to cause seizures:
  • Specific time of the day
  • Stress
  • Lack of sleep
  • Photosensitivity, such as flashing lights
  • Hormonal changes, such as during menstruation
  • Dehydration and/or nutritional deficiencies
  • Food-related, such as caffeine
  • Missed medication
Each state will have different regulations regarding driver’s license eligibility for those with medical conditions. In most states, you will need to be seizure-free for a specified period and submit a physician’s evaluation.
If you are eligible to drive, you will need proper
car insurance
to drive in your state.
