Can a bad radiator cap cause overheating?

My car keeps overheating. A friend of mine suggested that it might be because I have a bad radiator cap. Is that possible? Could that be the cause?

Yes—a bad radiator cap definitely could cause overheating. It’s one of the more common causes of that issue, so there’s a strong possibility that that’s the cause.
The radiator cap plays a critical role in maintaining the correct internal pressure. If it can’t maintain that pressure, you’ll experience overheating trouble. However, there are many different potential causes of overheating—it could be due to air pockets in the coolant lines, leaking oil, low coolant fluids, etcetera.
If you’re having overheating issues, you should have your car looked at by a professional mechanic as soon as possible. Otherwise, you could be risking serious engine damage. If that happens—or if any other serious damages happen to your vehicle—you’ll need to have reliable car insurance.
