Can a 6-week-old baby travel by car?
I want to take my 6-week-old baby to visit my parents about three hours away. I’ve only traveled short distances with my child, so I’m not sure how he’ll do on a long drive. Is it safe to travel by car with a 6-week-old baby?

Congratulations on becoming a parent! If you want to take your 6-week-old baby to visit your parents, don’t sweat it. Driving with a 6-week-old baby is perfectly safe, provided you plan ahead to make the trip more comfortable.
Just make sure to follow a few of these tips for traveling with children:
- Bring some children’s music along to soothe your 6-week-old if they get fussy.
- Dress your baby in pajamas, loose clothes, or just comfortable clothes so they can relax during the ride.
- Plan your trip with your child’s sleeping schedule in mind to increase the chances that your child sleeps for the entirety of the trip.
- Keep the temperatures a bit lower. Babies sleep better when it’s cooler, so by lowering the climate control, you can increase the chances of uninterrupted sleep.
And even though your parents’ house is only three hours away, you should still consider towing and labor coverage or a roadside assistance policy.
