Can a 3-month-old baby travel by car?
My brother is super stoked about becoming an uncle, so I want to bring my 3-month-old to see him for the first time. He lives about four hours away, so I’m a little concerned about how my child will handle the trip. Is it safe for a 3-month-old baby to travel by car?

Parenthood has a certain learning curve to it, as you’ve already found out. However, traveling with a 3-month-old baby by car shouldn’t be a problem as long as you plan ahead.
If you’ve never traveled a long distance with a newborn, make sure to apply a few of these tips and hacks so the trip goes smoothly.
- Dress your 3-month-old baby in loose clothes or pajamas so they’re comfortable.
- Put the temperature a little lower so that your baby can fall asleep comfortably.
- Make your trip coincide with the sleeping schedule that you’ve put your baby on. This will (hopefully) allow them to sleep throughout most of the trip.
- Drive no more than three hours at a time and take breaks as necessary.
- Bring some children’s music to make your child more content if they get a little fussy.
- Practice shorter trips a few times before you leave so your 3-month old baby gets used to sitting in the car seat for longer periods.
As a final measure, review your current car insurance policy and consider a roadside assistance or towing and labor coverage policy. By adding these to your current car insurance or switching to another company that offers it, you can ensure you won’t get stranded if the worst-case scenario happens.
