I promised I’d visit friends who recently moved to Texas’s capital, but I’m not sure when to go. What’s the best time to visit Austin?

However, you might need to book hotel rooms a few months in advance due to Austin City Limits happening in October and South By Southwest, which takes place every March.During the spring, get your cowboy hat and spurs ready as you lose yourself at Rodeo Austin, held every March and featuring some of the best rodeo athletes you’ll see anywhere. Take in a pig race, a Wild West show, a carnival, grab a bite, take the kids to a petting zoo, and enjoy a live auction.
You’ll also be able to enjoy yourself at Art City Austin, held every April, to see what this city full of creatives is up to. And, of course, no Austin spring is complete without toasting the year’s graduating class during the University of Texas’s annual commencement festivities, held every May.
During the fall, enjoy all the great live acts at Austin City Limits or just enjoy the scene surrounding the festival. Stick around in October for Halloween on 6th Street to get your spook on—not to mention enjoying the crisp Texas fall weather.
While in Austin, you’re going to want to eat. While there is a smorgasbord of edible options in the Texas capital, here are a few thoughts for you to enjoy:
- If you don’t have the patience to wait at Franklin’s, head to Central Texas Barbecue, just as amazing, for some smoked brisket with pickles and chipotle slaw.
- Austin has fantastic Mexican food, so head to Nixta Taqueria for delicious tacos, tostadas, paletas, and aguas frescas. Enjoy the sparkling, golden disco ball and the sweet tunes, as well.
