Are wheel bearings covered under the Subaru warranty?
During turns, I’ve noticed a squealing noise in my Subaru Outback, and I think it’s the wheel bearing. I bought my car in 2020—are the wheel bearings covered under Subaru’s warranty?

Unfortunately, wheel bearings aren’t covered under the Subaru Limited Warranty, as they’re considered a “wear and tear” item. However, if there is a defect with the wheel bearings, it likely will be covered under the new vehicle warranty, as long as you’re within the coverage period.
All new Subarus come with a 3-year/36,000-mile Subaru warranty that guarantees all parts are free from defects. Here are the other Subaru warranty components:
- New Vehicle Limited Warranty: 3 years/36,000 miles
- Wear Item Limited Warranty: 3 years/36,000 miles
- Powertrain Limited Warranty: 5 years/60,000 miles
- Seat Belt Lifetime Warranty: Lifetime
- Rust Perforation Limited Warranty: 5 years/unlimited miles
If you’re unsure whether something is covered under warranty, call your local Subaru dealer for details. But if you want more coverage, you may want to consider an extended warranty.
